Welcome to Kindergarten! This website is intended to communicate with the families of Mrs. Barloon's Kindergarten class. The education of your child is both a privilege and a great responsibility. Working as a team will provide a strong foundation for your child's educational and social development.
Each child is a very special little person with his/her own interests, needs, hopes, and learning style. You have already done some very important things to prepare your child for school. I hope that you will consider us partners during this school year in providing the best opportunities for your child in his/her growth.
Along with enhancing your child's social skills, the kindergarten curriculum includes: developing phonemic awareness skills (hearing sounds in words), learning the letters and sounds of the alphabet, pre-reading skills and some basic sight words, writing our ideas down so others can read it, practicing counting, sorting, graphing, patterning, thinking mathematically through cognitively guided math instruction etc., and lots of hands-on fun.
If at any time you have questions or concerns please just ask. Together, we can make this a successful beginning to your child's school career.
