COLOR CARDS
A large part of the kindergartner’s school experience involves learning appropriate and expected behavior in a social setting and how to consistently follow rules. Along with the 3 school-wide rules (BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, and DO YOUR BEST), our classroom also has some very important rules to ensure we have the happiest learning environment for everyone. We spend a great deal of time discussing and practicing ways to be Kids of Character. As part of this learning, we will also become familiar with the consequences of our behavior. To help each child understand and monitor his/her own behavior, we will use a color card behavior chart.
Each child will have a library pocket with 4 crayon cards in it
(green, yellow, red, and brown). Everyone will start every day with the green crayon up front. If their behavior choices warrants, they will have to change their crayon to the next color. Listed below are the meanings of each color:
Green = Go! I'm doing a great job learning today!
Yellow = Warning, Slow down and think about my choices
Red = Stop, Lose 5 minutes of recess or Choice Time to
think about how to make better choices
Black/White = Time Out, Lose all of next recess or
Choice Time to get back on the right track
At the end of the day, each child will color a dot he/she ended the day with on a weekly behavior record. This record sheet will be kept inside your child’s Cub Folder. Please take time to ask your child about his/her day and the color they had. The record sheet needs to be kept in the folder. If your child colors red or black, I will jot down a couple words as to which behavior your child had the most difficulty with that day. Please email or give me a call if you have any concerns.
