Meet Mrs. Barloon
This is my 16th year of teaching kindergarten here in Nevada. Before that, I taught kindergarten in Rock Falls, Illinois for 3 years. I grew up in Grinnell, Iowa and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education and a minor in Reading.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe all children bring unique characteristics to the classroom. Each one has his/her own personal learning style. It is my job to use a child's strengths to help him/her grow. I recognize that children come to kindergarten with a variety of experiences and that those experiences have a direct impact on their learning. I work to ensure all children feel safe at school and build their confidence to take risks in their learning. I expect a child to give me his/her best every day and I promise to give him/her the same from me.
My Family
I spend my time away from school with my husband, my two children, and our dog, Wally. My husband, Corey, is a third grade teacher here in Nevada. Our son, Andrew, is in 7th grade and our daughter, Gracie, is in 5th grade this year, both at the Middle School. Wally is the little, furry member of our family. Our kids keep us busy with band, soccer, softball, and school activities. I love every minute of it and cherish the memories we are making. We enjoy camping, biking, traveling, and playing games together.
Hobbies and Interests
Doing just about anything with my family is my first hobby. I also love to bake, put together 1000 piece puzzles, and read. My favorite grown-up books are Christian fiction. I am very active with my church, and I have a special passion for fundraising to support the Relay for Life foundation. I love to exercise and start my mornings early with a 3- mile walk/run.
